09/12 : Master's Address
I would first like to thank the Grand-Master Mason and Grand Lodge officers for flying all the way from England to help inaugurate our Lodge. Secondly all the Brothers and officers of St. John’s Lodge at Ohio for being present and aiding in this most historic event.
Today we lay the cornerstone of Anglo-Saxon Freemasonry in the United States. In time, the cement of brotherly love will bind and secure the many stones that collectively produce a magnificent, spiritual and moral Temple that is the aspiration of all Freemasons.
The foundation that is laid here in Ohio will be used as the Masters plans at the building sites of many great Masonic edifices. As Hiram was wise, so must we be, for a single rough ashlar or misplaced stone will weaken the final structure that Freemasonry hopes to erect here in this country.
The Brethren of St. John’s Lodge at Ohio are true and steadfast in this most glorious of purposes. We will take only the perfect stones from the quarries of American society and with them build strong walls, high and wide so that we may one day find ourselves standing at the pinnacle of our Masonic endeavors and the High Almighty will praise us for our great attributes and allow us to walk in his temple.
With faith, hope and charity for my Wardens and Brethren, I lift up my Trowel and spread this first mortar. So mote it be.
